Day 5 of Disney World Vacation- Epcot

We spent our fifth day in Orlando at Epcot. Epcot is divided into two parts- Future World and the World Showcase. The Future World section only has a couple of really good attractions, but the World Showcase is really neat. Bryton really enjoyed the Finding Nemo ride and Larry and I really liked the "Soarin'" ride. On "Soarin'" you get on this hang glider thing and there is a rounded screen underneath you. The hang glider goes up and the screen below shows scenery from different parts of California as seen from the air. The way the screen is and the way the hang glider moves makes it really seem like you are hang gliding over California. They blow air on you as well to make it seem more realistic and at certain points they pipe in scents like when you are flying over orange groves and you suddenly smell oranges, or you smell pine while going over a tree topped mountain, and the smell of the ocean at the beach. We loved that ride. We also went on the ride we hated the most of the whole trip here at Epcot, "Mission Space". Some people really like it, but it made both Larry and I so sick we could barely function! They have two lines when you go in- one for a more intense experience, and one for a less intense one. We chose more intense thinking it would be like "Disney intense", which isn't really intense at all. BAD, BAD decision. I really knew I had made a bad choice when we actually got into our seats and they mentioned the motion sickness bags in front of us if needed! I looked up and yep- actual barf bags! Immediately I am thinking "Oh noooo- what have I gotten myself into?" You go into these small, clausterphobic feeling "spaceships", and there is a screen in front of you that simulates a rocket launch and slingshot around the moon. You feel extreme forces that are supposed to mimic forces astronauts go through in training. I guess that the way they make you feel these forces are with extrememly fast upside down spinning. I only felt it actually spin twice, but supposedly it spins the whole time and you are supposed to keep your eyes on the screen to feel what they want you to feel and not the spinning. Even what they want you to feel is not very good! The forces pushing down on my body got so extreme that I felt like I couldn't breathe. There was one point where you go through an asteroid shower that didn't bother me so much, but Larry said he started to sweat and really almost threw up. So, I will NEVER go on "Mission Space" again and do not recommend it to anyone who has ever even gotten a twinge of motion sickness on anything! Our friends really liked it however, so maybe we are just wimps.
After seeing all we wanted to see in Future World we headed over to the World Showcase. This area is made up of about 10 different areas that are each made to look like a different country, complete with authentic restaurants, shops, shows, performers, and some rides. They also hire people from the different countries to work in each area so it seems more authentic. We spent hours in this section exploring each country. We had dinner at Edo Japan, a steakhouse in the Japanese section. Yum! We also had cream puffs and chocolate mousse for dessert from the French village. It was interesting looking at the shops with food, clothing, and trinkets from each country and learning about different parts of the world. Bryton slept through most of this as it didn't hold much interest for him, however he was awake for some of the Japanese girls in one of the Japanese stores to go completely gaga over him and he loved the attention. We told him a few Japanese words to say to them and he actually did pretty good! The girls went nuts over that! We ended the evening with a fireworks display, and then headed home exhausted but happy!

I'm not sure why I am making this face here or what was apparently grossing me out. Also not sure why Larry is taking a picture of it- But hey, Bryton looks cute!

Bryton Speaks

Little side note-

Now that Bryton is getting to that age when he is starting to say funny little things that really make me laugh, I am going to be starting a "Bryton Speaks" column on the right side of the page to record all his funny little Bryton-isms. Check back every so often to catch up with our cute little boy! I'm sure they will only get cuter as he gets older! I've written a few down there to get you started.

Day 4 of Orlando vacation- Disney's Hollywood Studios

Day four at Hollywood Studios was a blast! I really enjoyed the theme of this park with it's old Hollywood look. My favorite rides were the Aerosmith Rockin' Rollercoaster (so fun!) and the Hollywood Tower of Terror. I was petrified to do the Tower of Terror because I hate freefall rides, but it wasn't one long freefall, it was several shorter ones that bounce you back up and down. It was still pretty scary and Mike and Brooke were laughing at me because every time it would fall I would scream like crazy and bang my feet on the floor at a million miles an hour (I guess this helped me in some way?). I have to admit it probably did look pretty ridiculous. Bryton loved meeting Lightning McQueen and Mater from "Cars"- he even kissed Lightning- and he loved the 3-D muppets show and the stunt car show. I had the grossest lunch this day- Disney food is really not good (except in the world showcase at Epcot)but this was really bad. We went to the ABC Commissary and their only option for a sandwich was a double cheeseburger- no single. So, I ordered the double expecting it would probably be two smaller sized patties and wouldn't be too bad. It was two huge patties of NASTY meat and was probably one of the grossest things I've ever eaten. I wouldn't have eaten it except that we paid over 8 bucks for it, so I felt like I couldn't just toss it, I had to at least try to get my money's worth. My stomach was not so great the rest of that day. If you ever go there DON'T get the double cheeseburger (or pretty much anything for that matter- all way overpriced and not very good). It rained pretty hard for about an hour and we had to campout under an awning, but the rest of the day the weather was great. Going through our pictures I realized we barely took any this day and I'm not sure why. Enjoy the few pictures we did get!

Bryton meeting Lightning and Mater

The characters from "Up"- there was a long line that we didn't want to wait in, but Bryton really wanted to see the "doggie" so we got as close as we could and snapped a shot.

Same story with Mickey

In front of the "Hollywood Tower of Terror"- I hate when Larry takes pictures of me by myself- I feel like an idiot. Plus my hair did not behave at all on this trip- humidity does not agree with it- and this day especially I felt like such a frump!

And that is all the pictures we took this day! Sad huh? Not sure how that happened- maybe we were having too much fun to think about pictures!

Day 3 of Orlando Vacation- SeaWorld

The third day of our fun-filled trip was spent at Sea World. Our friend Brooke's soon to be brother-in-law works there so he was able to get us all free tickets, which was very nice. Bryton loves all sorts of animals, and when we took him to Sea World in San Diego a few months ago he absolutely loved it, so we were excited to take him again. It was a fun day and we all enjoyed ourselves except for the RAIN! It poured pretty much all day. The nice thing about it was that there was hardly anyone in the park- literally- so we were able to do everything we wanted, but after 6 hours of wet socks and squishy shoes we were ready to call it a day. The best part is that we forgot to pay attention to where exactly we had parked, so we went out to the parking lot and started looking. The sky chose that exact moment to let loose with the largest downpour of the day, while we were wandering around aimlessly trying to find the car before we drowned! Luckily we found it within a few minutes! Bryton's favorite parts were the seals and sea lions, and we also got to feed some dolphins. I even got to touch one. I also fed a sting ray which was a weird experience. They suction the food out of your hand with their gaping mouths, and it is actually pretty scary! Brooke also fed the dolphins and stingrays but the boys refused. They are such wimps! They didn't want to touch the fish to feed the animals, and they wouldn't touch the stingrays either. Funny that both the guys were the scaredy cats! Of course I was the only one who refused to ride the roller coasters, so I guess we'll call it even!
