Yesterday, Larry participated in the Spudman Triathlon in Burley, Idaho. He did it once before 2 years ago, and his goal this time was to beat his last time, which he did by a longshot! The triathlon consists of a 1-mile swim in the Snake River, followed by a 26-mile bike ride, and then a 6-mile run. Whew! I am so proud of him for doing such a great job! That is something I could never do, and I admire his will and determination so much! He did a great job! The saddest thing is that a man actually died during the swim portion. How awful. They do the start times in waves, so Larry was long gone by the time the commotion started up about someone going under, which is good because I would have been freaking out if Larry was in that wave, and no one could say who the man was for a while. Larry was shocked when he finished and I told him about it. It was very surreal and shocking. I felt so bad for his family who was waiting for him.
We went up Friday night to spend the night beforehand, and we stayed in the scariest motel I have ever been to! Larry started calling for hotel rooms a full 2 months in advance but the only thing available was in a town called Rupert, about 6 miles away. It was called the Flamingo Lodge Motel. I knew it was going to be bad when it was titled something to do with flamingos in Idaho. Oh My Gosh! It was the weirdest place I have ever seen. If Larry ever does this triathlon again, we know to call WAAAAY in advance for a room!

old 12-inch TV in the hotel room

We didn't even want to set Bryton down, we found hairs all over the bed- EWWW! We actually went to WalMart and bought our own pillowcases and sheets because we were not going to touch theirs!

Just look at this fabulous decor! We even found a dead fly on the small bed!

Cute chair straight from 1972

Our scary shower that looked like it belonged in an abandoned mental hospital

Scary, institutional bathroom

Larry's wave swimming

After Larry crossed the finish line- he's in the middle, a little hard to see, but if you click on the picture you can see how exhausted and disoriented he looks!
